Our role in EAVI2020 will be to perform in-depth analyses of germline and antigen-specific antibody repertoires in vaccinated subjects through antibody isolation and deep sequencing.

Gunilla Karlsson Hedestam

Gunilla Karlsson Hedestam is a Professor at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm. She received her undergraduate training at Uppsala University and a D.Phil. from Oxford University in 1993. She was subsequently a post-doctoral fellow at Harvard Medical School during 1994-1998 where she investigated neutralization properties of primary HIV-1 isolates and developed the simian-human immunodeficiency virus (SHIV) model for pathogenesis studies. After a period in the private sector, she returned to academia and established her group at Karolinska Institutet. She is a member of the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative Neutralizing Antibody Consortium since 2008 and she holds an NIH HIVRAD grant since 2014. Her research focuses on basic B cell biology, in particular immunization-induced responses and the genetics of antibody repertoires.
